How to book Cape Point tickets

You can buy online gate entry tickets through SANParks, which is the safest option during busy school holidays and peak tourist periods. SANParks also confirms that Cape Point and Boulders gates are cash-free, so payments at the gate must be made by debit or credit card. At Cape Point, SANParks processes one payment per vehicle, not separate payments per person.

South Africans wanting the local rate should bring valid proof such as an ID, driver’s licence or passport, and Cape Point also says an electronic copy on your phone is accepted for local-rate verification.

Can you use a Wild Card at Cape Point?

Yes. Cape Point is part of Table Mountain National Park, so visitors can enter with a valid Wild Card instead of paying the daily conservation fee. SANParks says Wild Card holders should show their membership confirmation letter and proof of identity, and the old plastic Wild Cards are now obsolete. The Wild Card covers the park entry fee, not the Flying Dutchman Funicular

Important things to know before you go

Cape Point is in the Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park, not a separate private attraction.

The gate is cash-free, so bring a bank card.

If you want the South African rate, bring the right proof on arrival.

SANParks and Cape Point both note that prices typically increase on 1 November each year, so this page should be refreshed annually around that date.

Is Cape Point worth the price?

For most Cape Town visitors, yes. Cape Point is one of the city’s standout day-trip attractions, and the gate fee gives you access to one of South Africa’s most famous coastal protected areas. The main thing to budget for is the extra funicular cost if you do not want to walk uphill to the lighthouse area.
