What is the SANParks Wild Card?
The Wild Card is SANParks’ annual access pass. It gives the named members 365 days of access to the parks and reserves covered by the cluster on the card, and members do not pay daily conservation fees at those qualifying parks.
Which parks does the Wild Card cover?
The exact coverage depends on the cluster you buy. SANParks’ official partner list shows that Wild Card coverage spans SANParks national parks plus selected CapeNature, Msinsi and Eswatini partner properties. Examples include Kruger National Park, Addo Elephant National Park, Table Mountain National Park, Garden Route National Park, West Coast National Park, Cederberg Wilderness Area, De Hoop Nature Reserve, Albert Falls Dam, Hlane Royal National Park and Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary.
Wild Card coverage at a glance
| Cluster | Best for | Example places covered |
|---|---|---|
| SANParks Cluster | Visitors focused on South Africa’s national parks | Kruger, Addo, Kgalagadi, Table Mountain, Garden Route |
| All Parks Cluster | Travellers who want SANParks plus extra partner reserves | SANParks parks + CapeNature reserves + Msinsi sites + Eswatini parks |
| CapeNature Cluster | Western Cape day-trippers and hikers | Cederberg, Jonkershoek, Kogelberg, De Hoop, Robberg |
| Msinsi Cluster | KwaZulu-Natal regional visitors | Albert Falls, Hazelmere, Inanda, Nagle |
| Eswatini Cluster | Visitors exploring Eswatini game parks | Hlane, Mlilwane, Mkhaya |
Because the official partner list is limited to SANParks and named partner clusters, visitors should not assume non-partner parks are covered. Your own Wild Card research specifically flags Pilanesberg as a key example of a park people wrongly assume is included.
Is the SANParks Wild Card worth it?
For many South African visitors, yes. Using Kruger’s current official daily conservation fees of R134 per SA adult and R67 per SA child, the SANParks Cluster usually pays for itself after roughly 5 to 7 park days, depending on how many people are on the card.
Kruger break-even examples
| Card typeWild Card priceKruger daily fee usedApprox break-even point | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| SANParks Cluster – Individual | R895 | R134/day | about 7 days |
| SANParks Cluster – Couple | R1,450 | R268/day | about 6 days |
| SANParks Cluster – Family | R1,735 | R402/day for 2 adults + 2 children | about 5 days |
| All Parks Cluster – Individual | R930 | R134/day | about 7 days |
| International All Parks – Couple | R7,310 | R1,204/day for 2 adults | about 7 days |
If you visit Kruger once for a full week, or combine Kruger + Cape Point + Addo + Garden Route within a year, the Wild Card can make sense quickly. If you only plan one short park visit, paying daily conservation fees may work out cheaper. Kruger’s current day rates and Wild Card prices are what drive the estimates above.
What the Wild Card does not cover
The Wild Card covers qualifying entry fees, but it does not automatically cover everything inside or around a park.
It does not include the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, because SANParks notes that attractions such as the cableway are independently operated and set their own fees.
It also does not remove the separate advance booking fee if a Wild Card holder chooses to pre-book a Kruger day visit. SANParks says Wild Card members still pay that advance booking fee when they book day access ahead of time.
And it does not apply at parks or reserves that are outside the official Wild Card partner network.
How to buy a SANParks Wild Card
SANParks says the easiest option is to buy online. You need a SANParks Account to purchase or manage a Wild Card, and SANParks says online purchase is best because you can check your details properly. It is also still possible to buy at select partner parks or reserves.
Before you buy
- Individual = one adult over 18
- Couple = up to two people, including two adults or one adult and one child
- Family = up to seven people, with either one adult and six children or two adults and five children
- A child is anyone under 18 at the time of purchase
- Membership is linked to the named people on the card and is not meant to be swapped from trip to trip
How to use the Wild Card at the gate
Plastic Wild Cards have been discontinued. SANParks says members now use a digital card or purchase/renewal confirmation letter, together with valid proof of identity, to gain access. That is especially important for partner properties where old plastic cards are no longer accepted.
Important things to know before you buy
The Wild Card page should answer the biggest visitor frustrations clearly near the top. Your March 2026 SEO research highlights parks covered, break-even value, FAQ content and internal links from SANParks fee pages as the biggest opportunities for this page.
Prices and rules can change, and SANParks publishes Wild Card rates by validity window. For this page, the current pricing window runs until 31 October 2026, so this page should be refreshed again as soon as SANParks publishes the next cycle.
