North West Entrance Fees & Attraction Prices Guide (2026)

Planning a trip to the North West? The province’s biggest paid attractions are Pilanesberg National Park, Sun City, Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway, Harties Holiday Resort and Madikwe Game Reserve. For local visitors, entry starts from about R150 at Harties Holiday Resort, while Sun City weekday adult tickets sit at R415 and Pilanesberg now charges both per person and per vehicle. Madikwe works differently because it is lodge-based and does not allow normal day visitors.

Best wildlife attractions in North West

Pilanesberg National Park

Pilanesberg is the strongest price-intent attraction in North West and should lead this hub. The current published gate fees show R168 per South African adult, R84 per child aged 5 to 12, R84 for pensioners, and R168 per sedan, LDV or SUV. Gate times also change by month, so visitors should check season-specific opening hours before driving through.

This is also an important trust point for the page: Pilanesberg is not a SANParks property, so visitors should not assume SANParks systems or Wild Card rules apply here. Your existing Pilanesberg page already frames it as a North West Parks tariff issue, which makes it a strong spoke page from this hub.

Madikwe Game Reserve

Madikwe deserves a place on the hub because it is one of North West’s most important safari names, but it should be framed as a premium stay, not a casual family day out. The reserve states that no day visitors are allowed. Its 2026 fee page shows a park entrance fee of R180 per adult and R80 per child, with conservation levies added on top, including R260 per SADC adult per day and R520 per international adult per day.

That makes Madikwe useful for “worth it” and “cost of a safari stay” queries, but less suitable for the quick day-trip intent that drives Pilanesberg traffic.

Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre

The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre adds useful depth to the North West wildlife cluster. The official tours page lists a walking tour at R165 per adult and R100 per child, a guided tour at R485 per adult and R290 per child, and a cheetah run and guided tour at R590 per adult and R385 per child.

This is a strong “North West wildlife attraction prices” target and a good internal-link opportunity from both the North West hub and any Hartbeespoort page.

Best family attractions in North West

Sun City

Sun City is the page’s biggest family and resort draw. The official day visitor page currently lists Monday to Friday prices of R415 per adult and R305 per child, with weekend and public holiday prices of R470 per adult and R370 per child. Children aged 2 and under enter free. Sun International also says day visitor tickets are limited daily, available through TicketPro, and cannot be bought at the resort itself.

For users asking what is included, the Maze of the Lost City is free for resort residents and for day visitors who already have a valid Sun City day ticket.

Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway

Harties is one of the North West’s strongest day-trip areas, and the cableway is the most recognisable paid attraction there. The official pricing page shows R360 per adult, R240 per child aged 4 to 14, and R215 per pensioner. The cableway is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the site pushes online booking through its booking platform.

The cableway site also shows family package pricing on its home page, including R1,035 for 2 adults and 2 children. That makes it easier to surface “Hartbeespoort family outing cost” intent directly on the hub.

Harties Holiday Resort

For families looking for water slides and a cheaper day out than Sun City, Harties Holiday Resort is one of the better-value North West options. The resort currently shows summer entrance fees of R150 for adults and R130 for kids aged 2 to 12, with special peak-date pricing of R200 for adults and R150 for kids on selected December and 1 January dates. The resort also states that it is card only.

This section helps the hub capture family and budget intent that would otherwise skip straight to Gauteng waterpark pages.

Family budget planner

A North West hub page should not only list prices. It should also help users estimate the real cost of a day out.

A self-drive South African family of four at Pilanesberg, using 1 standard vehicle, currently lands at about R672 before food or activities. That is based on 2 adults at R168 each, 2 children at R84 each, plus a vehicle fee of R168.

A weekday family of four at Sun City comes to about R1,440, while a weekend or public holiday visit rises to about R1,680.

A summer family day at Harties Holiday Resort for 2 adults and 2 children works out at about R560, which makes it one of the more budget-friendly paid family attractions in the province.

What to know before you visit North West attractions

Pilanesberg now has a bigger budgeting sting than many visitors expect because the reserve charges both per person and per vehicle.

Sun City day visitors should not just pitch up and hope for a ticket. The official rates page says tickets are limited daily and are not sold at the resort.

Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway is not a seven-day attraction at present, so visitors should plan around the Monday and Tuesday closure.

Madikwe should not be treated like Pilanesberg. It is an overnight safari reserve, not a standard self-drive day-visitor park

Prices, ticket rules and opening hours can change, so it is worth checking the official booking page before you leave home.

Is North West worth it for a day trip?

Yes, especially if your goal is to compare safari, resort and scenic attractions in one province. Pilanesberg suits wildlife day-trippers, Sun City suits families wanting a full entertainment day, and Harties works well for shorter scenic outings. Madikwe is the premium option for visitors planning a lodge stay rather than a same-day return.
