Trevi Fountain Entrance Fee

The Trevi Fountain in Rome is currently free to visit, but changes are underway for 2025 as Rome prepares for the Jubilee Year. The city is planning to introduce an entrance fee of €2 for tourists, while access will remain free for Rome residents[2][3][5].

The proposed ticket system would grant visitors a 30-minute time slot to enter the area immediately around the fountain, specifically within the nine stone steps leading up to its edge[2][3]. This does not apply to those simply passing by or viewing the fountain from a distance[3]. The objective is to reduce crowding, prevent inappropriate behavior (such as eating or jumping into the fountain), and manage the high volume of visitors expected for the Holy Year[1][2][3]. The revenue generated will be used for preservation and management of the monument[2].

As of early 2025, these restrictions and fees are in preparation and subject to final approval by local authorities. For now, except for some new cordons and controlled access during peak hours, the main terrace and viewing areas remain freely accessible to the public[1][7].
