The Sudwala Caves in Mpumalanga, South Africa, are set in Precambrian dolomite rock, which was first laid down about 2800 million years ago. The caves themselves formed about 240 million years ago. They are one of the oldest caves in the world.

How long does it take to go through Sudwala Caves?
The Sudwala Caves is the oldest known caves in the world and lie in the Drakensberg escarpment. Regular guided tours take you 600 meters in and 150 meters underground. Tours leave every 10 min (approx) and take about 30 minutes.
What is attractive about Sudwala Caves?
The cave features impressive rock formations, such as the 150 million year old Lowfeld Rocket, 160 million year old Screaming Monster, and 200 million year old Samson’s Pillar. Besides these amazing rock displays, the caverns are adorned with fascinating stalactites.
What should I wear to Sudwala Caves?
You need to wear old clothes (Shorts/tracksuit pants and a T-shirt or overalls) no jeans as they tend to be restrictive and shoes with good grip (boots or takkies). No open shoes unless they fasten to your feet.
