Graskop

Graskop is a small town in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. It was set up in the 1880s as a gold mining camp but it now serves as a tourist destination and the timber industry. “God’s Window”, a scenic view from the escarpment of the Lowveld below, is located outside the town.

How much does it cost to enter God’s window?

The peaceful rain forest at the top of the path. It is best to visit God’s Window on a clear sunny day if you want to enjoy the view. There is a small (R10 – R50) per vehicle entry fee for visitors to God’s Window, payable in cash.

Why is it called Gods window?

Gods Window is so called for the panoramic view of the Lowveld more than 900 m down into lush indigenous forest clad ravine. The majestic cliffs plunge over 700 meters to the Lowveld and the private game reserves which have made the area one of South Africa’s main wildlife destinations.

Doctor Mnisi, Al Martens and the owners of Big Swing in Graskop, Vuka Marketing, were charged with the murder of 29-year-old Jo-Ann Samuels who died when she and her husband, SA National Defence Force Captain Hendrik Samuels, 30, did the jump on October 3, 2009.

Can you picnic at Gods window?

Please note that the view site at God’s Window is only worth viewing on a sunny, clear day as cloud cover can hide the scenery. A steep stepped footpath leads to the viewpoints along the edge of the escarpment. There are three viewing sites and picnic areas along the way.
